CRIME HOT SPOTS IN NAIROBI

Some areas within Nairobi are considered risky to anybody walking alone at night/day due to the number of mugging that have occurred in their vicinity. The Region Security Research and Information Centre (SRIC)  have declared them as CRIME HOTSPOTS. You are cautioned to exercise extreme precaution and be conscious and mindful of your personal safety and security, and never walk along these places unaccompanied especially at night.

According to a report compiled by the Nairobi Region Security Research and Information Centre (SRIC) Nairobi’s crime hot spots traverse five major areas in the city, most of them on the East land side,

SRIC is an independent, not-for-profit making organization which carries out research on human security in Kenya and the sub-region of the Great Lakes Region and the greater Horn of Africa.

The report indicates that most of the crimes at the crime hot sports are committed by, criminal masquerading as street urchins carrying guns.  The five major areas in the city, according to the Nairobi region annual crime observatory report recently released by Security Research and Information Centre (SRIC) are:

 

1 ) LANG’ATA REGION

Kibera, Salama, Karanja Road, Kiandaa (dark alley), Bombolulu, Soweto,Migigingo, Lindi, Line Saba, Soweto, Highrise.

TYPES OF CRIMES: Theft, armed robbery, assault

TIME: Both day and night.

2) EMBAKASI REGION

Kayole, Soweto-Embakasi Bridge, area opposite Jacaranda Estate, Highridge Teacher’ College playing ground, Gitari, Marigo, Laikipia, Kangundo road-railway line junction.

TYPES OF CRIMES: All kinds of crime (Kidnapping, theft, armed robbery, trading in SALW, assault)

TIME: 6pm – 5am and in broad daylight.

3) DAGORETTI REGION

Kasovo,Ndunyu,Maumau,Kiana, Waithaka kwa Ng’ang’a, Kabiria, Mlango soko in Kwangware, Muslim Kawangware, Ndwaru road.

TYPES OF CRIMES: Drug peddling, theft of motor cycles (Boda boda), dumping site of dead bodies, armed robbery, and trading in Small Arms and light weapons (SALW)

TIME: Any time 6.00pm – 3am and evening.

4) KAMUKUNJI REGION

Mlango kubwa (between Eastleigh, Garage and St. Teresa), Eastleigh (Desai Road Section 3 and 7), Huruma Grounds and around the chief’s place, Mathare North area (near Albadir  petrol station), Kiamaiko, Majengo, Ngara; Railway quarters and near Equity Bank, Kasarani.

TYPES OF CRIMES: Car accessories snatching such as side mirrors, luggage stealing, assault, armed robbery, drug peddling,SGBV, kidnapping, mugging, break-ins.

TIME: During day, any time.

5) MAKADARA REGION

Jericho, Jericho sports ground (Uwanja soo, Kiambiu, Katulo Road, Mutindwa, shepherds and Uhuru junction, makongeni-Likoni Road Bridge, Mukuru fauta bridge, mesora. Mukuru Reuben, Harambee, stage 2, mukuru  kwa njenga near muhindi mweusi supermarket, South B near the bridge, South C near fly over.

TYPES OF CRIMES: Theft, assault, armed robbery, trading in Small Arms and light weapons (SALW) , Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) like rape, carjacking. Kidnapping etc

TIME: Any time (day and night)/6pm – 5am
