Kenya Covid-19 cases cross the 1,000 mark
Coronavirus cases in Kenya crossed the 1,000-mark Wednesday following confirmation of 66 new cases.
At the same time, the country has acquired two mobile laboratories and testing kits from Germany to help fight Covid-19, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said during the daily update.
The new cases raised the national tally of confirmed cases to 1,029. Infections in the country have been increasing daily, since mid March when the first case was confirmed on a student who had arrived in from the US through the UK.
The CS also announced the extension of lockdown in Mombasa’s Old Town and Nairobi’s Eastleigh estates which were identified as hotspots for the virus earlier in the month.
“We are very much concerned about Mombasa,” he said confirming that the resort county accounted for 30 of the new cases. Nairobi had 26 and Kajiado three.
Nakuru, Busia, Kisii, Meru, Kirinyaga, Makueni and Uasin Gishu counties recorded one case each.
“Some 64 of those infected are Kenyans while the two others are foreign nationals,” the CS added.
