Senate approves online examinations

In response to the negative effects of Covid-19 on teaching and learning, the University of Nairobi Senate approved guidelines and procedures for online examinations on 8th May 2020. The Special Senate was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Prof.S.G.Kiama. The Senate relied on the provisions of Statutes- xxv that gives senate the mandate over all academic matters in the University.

 

The University had adopted e-learning in March following the government’s ban on meetings and congregations to check the spread of the virus.

Kenya – Floods Hit North and Central Regions as Death Toll Rises to 237

The death toll continues to rise as the flood situation worsens in Kenya.

Government Minister Eugene L. Wamalwa, said on 13 May that 237 lives have now been lost due to flooding that began in April – a jump from 194 fatalities announced last week. A total of 161,000 households (over 800,000 people) have now been affected across the country.

2. Near Oilibya Petrol Station in Mathare Slum area. Common for mugging and murder crimes.
3. Congo area near Kawangware. Common for drug trafficking, rape and mugging.
4. Kware in Rongai, Kajiado. Common for mugging crimes.
5. Noonkopir (Daraja next to Saitoti Hospital) in Kitengela. Common for carjacking and robbery.
6. Changombe slums in Kitengela. Common for drug trafficking and rape.

Beware of thugs posing as multi-agency teams tracing Covid-19 cases

Police have warned of thugs masquerading as part of multi-agency teams coordinating activities of the coronavirus pandemic fight in the country.

 

Authorities want those called on the mobile phone or visited at homes by people claiming to be the multi-agency team to be careful and to scrutinise their identities.

Status of Learning at UoN during the Covid-19 Lockdown

The Corona Virus pandemic is a global phenomenon that has affected all sectors in every country in the world including higher education. Universities and colleges were forced to abruptly close and ongoing teaching of various courses was abandoned midstream. As a result, managers of universities and colleges with thousands of stranded students have been left wondering how to fill the gap and at the very least maintain some semblance of normality.
